The Art and the Story Behind It
Glass has a fluidness to it, a feeling and energy that can bring smiles, joy, and comfort, to those watching the way it dances in the light.
If you visit my studio, you will see about 10 creations started at once while scattered about the studio is a stash of colors, shapes, and sizes of glass and bobbles, just begging to be put into the next creation. I’m constantly inspired by the spirit that is inherent in every piece of glass and how it can be shaped to exemplify the natural beauty of the world around us.
I was born and raised in the heart of America in a sleepy little country town called St. Peters, Missouri. My parents firmly believed in family vacations and exploring everything from coastal beaches to rocky mountains, which allowed me to experience many different landscapes and natural settings in my formative years. It was quickly clear that summer vacations at the beach were always my favorite!
I would spend hours searching for the perfect shells, then hours arranging and admiring them at home, far away from the beach.
Years later, I found myself in another sleepy little town called Tres Pinos, California, just 30 minutes from the sparkling waters of the west coast. I would take many trips to any beach I could travel to, each time feeling so connected to the ocean that I was inspired to bring that feeling home. I felt drawn to share that feeling and passion for the ocean with others, knowing that not everyone may be able to experience dipping their toes in the sandy waters of the ocean.
I felt an intense desire to capture and share the magic of mermaids, sea turtles, and the beauty and power of the ocean itself with others!
At the same time, I found myself passionately embracing my childhood love for living in the country, where foxes, deer, and bunnies run freely around our home. Embracing the two, I realized I could capture the magic and excitement of both worlds, country foxes and ocean mermaids, through my stained glass creations, and MerFox Art was born! Loving the worlds of mermaids and foxes, this name keeps my mission clear: to bring the joy, excitement, power, and beauty of nature to others through my artwork.
As if by magic, gorgeous glass lands in my lap, visions pop in my head and I'm compelled to continue creating works of art that represent the astonishing beauty surrounding us every single day, God's work honored.
Classes were formed as others reached out and I found myself desiring to help them capture their own inspirations! I give them guidance to create their own serenity and relaxation aspects of creating glass pieces. I have many students around the country and more are created every week. I hope to do on line classes to reach even more people soon.
My life now?
I live in this sleepy little country town near Nashville, Tennessee, with my husband John, son Johnathon, and our rescue puppy Sashi, and my son's rescue/service dog, Kira. I am being touched and inspired by all of you, wanting nothing more than to connect you with that magical piece of glass art that brings you healing, joy, and laughter.
Nice to meet you.
From My Collection
Just a few of the hundreds of pieces I've created to energize the souls of my collectors!
Meditation
One of many pieces designed for you to place a candle behind and watch the waves of the ocean.
Hidden Mermaid
This mermaid is behind the glass, showing only with the right lighting. The glass allows her to barely be seen, just like the mermaids we almost seem to see in the ocean.
Birds in Flight
Debbie, a painter, also loves nature, so when she reached out to me to create a piece to inspire her when she walked into her studio, my imagine took over. There are birds flying in each piece if you look closely!
